NEW BRITAIN, CT (WFSB) – Former New Britain Mayor Erin Stewart officially submitted paperwork to run for Connecticut governor in 2026, according to documents filed with the State Elections Enforcement Commission.
Stewart, a Republican, submitted her candidate registration form on Monday.
She posted a video to her social media pages.
She established a campaign committee called “Erin for Connecticut” for the Nov. 3, 2026 election.
The filing showed Stewart’s campaign will be based in Waterbury. Stewart named Valerie R. Marino of Waterbury as her campaign treasurer and Maxwell Turgeon of Wethersfield as deputy treasurer.
The campaign will use Thomaston Savings Bank as its depository institution.
Stewart, who lives in New Britain, served as the city’s mayor for 12 years. At 28, she became the youngest mayor in the city’s history when first elected.
Gov. Ned Lamont officially launched his campaign for a third term last week. Lamont’s only competition on the Democratic side was Rep. Josh Elliott, who filed paperwork over the summer.
On the Republican side, Sen. Ryan Fazio and Timothy Wilcox announced runs for governor.
Connecticut’s gubernatorial elections are held every four years, with the current term ending in Jan. 2027.
